Gassaku Kogatana

Gassaku denotes that a blade was made cooperatively by two people.

This particular kogatana was a collaboration between a top level (mukansa) Japanese sword smith and myself.

The forging processes were performed  by the Japanese sword smith.  Tsuchioki (clay application), yakiire (heat treatment) and kajitogi and other finish work was performed by myself.

The hada is fine itame and the hamon is choji.

Not for sale.

Kogatana / Kozuka

At first glace, this appears to be a kogatana fitted inside a seperate kozuka handle.  This kogatana  / kozuka is actually one piece and forged from the same billet of folded steel.  One side of the blade is polished the other finished as traditional kogatana in file marks. The kozuka has a nice dark brown rust patina and is signed on the ura.
